More and more society is moving towards green-focused lifestyles. You may feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of green living tips that seem to be popping up in magazines, on television, and in books. Incorporating these changes into your everyday life can be simple and fun. Going green can start with something as simple as water; just a few small adjustments in your home can make a huge impact. Installing water-saving showerheads, spending less time in the shower, and collecting rainwater to water plants are all simple, cost-effective ideas that can be implemented immediately in your home.

Planting Garbage

I'm not sure if I like this idea or not.

If the manufacturers of plastic bags, cups - basically anything that traditionally becomes litter - sealed a few seeds into a small storage section at the bottom of their product then when non-green people tossed them out the window sooner or later some of the seeds would sprout. If they were flower seeds then we'd start seeing colors in unusual places, if they were crop seeds then the homeless might wind up with an unexpected bit of extra food.

Aside from letting the manufacturers of these products claim they were going green this would at least turn some of the garbage into less of an eyesore. On the negative side though, more people might be inclined to litter figuring they'd be doing less harm. Hence my ambivalence.

Have janitors turn off non-critical lights and computer monitors in the office. That'll reduce their green footprint.

Cities with the most pollution should give rebates to drivers who trade in their standard gas-powered cars for hybrids. Increase gas taxes to pay for it.

Using biodegradable plastic grocery bags (tapioca starch is used in the making of them) would be a great way to reduce solid waste.

Think twice next time you're going to buy a magazine or newspaper. Usually people only read a small portion of them and then they're not recycled (just tossed in the garbage instead). Think, walk away, and then think again. You'll probably end up not buying it it and you won't miss it next week.

A soft plastic collapsible mug that can be reused so you don't have to use disposables that aren't good for the environment. Carry it in your purse or briefcase.

These bricks & mortar banks are completely unnecessary. Everyone should instead be getting their direct deposits from their work on these prepaid debit cards you purchase at the grocery that give you a routing number & account number with free phone support, ATM withdrawals and the ability to make deposits at drug stores such as Walgreens & CVS. There's no advantage to these big bank locations. THEY SHOULD ALL BE SHUT DOWN!
